Takuma Asano is getting some stick from the German media after a mistake allowing RB Leipzig to score against Hannover 96 over the weekend.

SportBuzzer point out that it was Asano’s failed trick in midfield that led to Leipzig’s second goal. He tried to take on too many players in a dangerous area, and Leipzig quickly countered and scored. The German publication make the (rather insensitive) joke that Asano should be made to prepare sushi for the team for a week as punishment.

Fortunately the club’s manager was far more forgiving. Andre Breitenreiter admitted that it was better to avoid giving away such simple goals, but said mistakes are just part of the game.

Asano made a very strong start to life with Hannover in pre-season, scoring six goals and assisting one in seven matches. Then he made a similarly impressive competitive debut, scoring and winning a penalty in the DFB-Pokal.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to carry that form into the league just yet. Three starts into the campaign and he’s yet to get off the mark in goals or assists.

Of course, it hasn’t been easy, facing Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig in the first three games. Hopefully his form will pick up in the coming weeks.
