Arsenal got their second win of the Unai Emery era as they made hard work of their game at Cardiff on Sunday afternoon.

Cardiff hadn’t scored a Premier League goal in four years so, of course Arsenal let them have two. We’re nice like that.

After the game, we were left with more questions than answers.

What, exactly, is the composition of Granit Xhaka’s brain, for instance? After just four games of the new season, he is now one booking away from an automatic suspension for five yellows. Many Arsenal fans are hoping this will be just what’s needed to finally see Lucas Torreira handed a start although we still don’t know how likely that is.

Other questions include pondering what Bernd Leno is doing in training that allows Emery to keep picking Petr Cech who couldn’t be more uncomfortable with the ball at his feet if it was made of ebola-laced lava. Does Leno spend his sessions wanking over pictures of Manuel Almunia?

Why is Anthony Taylor still allowed to be a professional referee? In a game that saw Cardiff foul Arsenal 14 times to Arsenal’s 12, the Gunners left with four yellows to their three. Harry Arter, who seems to get away with quite a bit on a regular basis, should have had two yellows long before he was finally booked for trying to cripple Torreira. His dive for Cardiff’s freekick that Taylor bought, should see him handed a retroactive ban but we all know that will only happen if the media make a big fuss. Will they? He’s English so that’s unlikely.

From the game itself, we learned little that we didn’t know already. How long it will take for Emery and co. to get some sort of defensive ability drilled into these clowns is also hard to know, but he now has a few weeks of interrupted training in order to get ready for an incredibly winnable run of games.

We should then, hopefully, start learning a good bit more about what this season has in store.
