Dominic Thompson trained with the Arsenal first team ahead of their Europa League clash against FC Vorskla as the club look to provide cover for Nacho Monreal with Sead Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles still injured.

The 18-year-old defender has not yet played an u23 game for Arsenal but could grab a place on the bench for tonight’s match with Jordi Osei-Tutu also picking up an injury.

Thompson signed professional terms with Arsenal back in June after performing well with the u18s in 2017/18. Towards the end of the league campaign, he even took up the captaincy on a number of occasions.

He didn’t play a part for the top academy side last campaign, starting instead almost every round as the u18s reached the FA Youth Cup final.

However, Thompson turned 18 in July making him ineligible for that competition in 2018/19. Instead, he can take part in the Checkatrade Trophy, which Arsenal are entering for the first time next season.

Tolaji Bola is currently ahead of the full-back in the u23s. Bola has not yet accepted a contract extension to remain with the club.
