Arsenal’s women got their new season off to the best possible start with a 5-0 battering of Liverpool on Sunday.

A hatrick from Vivianne Miedema, as well as goals from Lisa Evans and Kim Little, saw Arsenal wrap up the game in the first half before netting their fifth in the 89th minute.

Miedema opened the scoring after just six minutes when she got on the end of Katie McCabe’s cross from just six-yards out. She then turned architect to set up Evans for Arsenal’s second eight minutes later and their third after 35 minutes that was scored by Little.

With a goal and two assists already under her belt, she netted her second of the game after 39 minutes before completing her hattrick and Arsenal’s scoring in the 89th.

It’s no wonder we called her a ‘natural born killer‘.

Miedema’s hattrick was the first scored by an Arsenal player in the league since September 2014.

The Gunners finished the game with 68% possession, 17 shots to Liverpool’s 7, 9 on target to their 1, 9 corners v 1 and only 5 fouls to Liverpool’s 14.

Next up, they face Lewes Ladies in the Conti Cup on Sunday at The Dripping Pan with a 2pm kick-off.
