Arsenal’s sixth game of the Premier League campaign is a home match with Everton – another side that harbour hopes of improving on their position from last season.

Matches between the Toffees and North London outfit haven’t lacked for goals or drama in recent times. Ahead of their latest meeting at the Emirates on Sunday, 23 September, which may see ex-Gunner Theo Walcott return to action, we take a look at four key stats for the fixture.

Tempers can flare

A player has been sent off in three of the last four, and four of the last six, meetings between the Gunners and Toffees. Ill-discipline is more a trait in the visitors to the Emirates, however, with 75 per cent of those seeing red representing the Merseyside club.

That trend of Everton players not keeping it together has extended into this season under new manager Marco Silva.

Veteran defender Phil Jagielka – dismissed for two bookings when Arsenal lost 2-1 at Goodison Park in December 2016 – was sent off in their first game of the campaign at Wolves, while Brazil winger Richarlison also saw red before the international break.

Home form solid but not the defence

Unai Emery has inherited some of the defensive frailties Arsene Wenger experienced in his later years, when the Gunners struggled to keep goals out against the big Premier League clubs. Arsenal still haven’t kept a clean sheet this season so far.

They do, however, boast a very strong home record against Everton, with four consecutive victories.

The last three of those have seen the Gunners conceding a goal, so expect to see both teams to score and an Arsenal win, with the Toffees finding the net featuring among Premier League betting tips for the week at 8/13 and 15/8 respectively with bet365.

Ramsey record terror for Toffees

Some players just seem to like scoring against certain teams. From Everton’s perspective, Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been their nemesis of late. Arsenal have him to thank for their three consecutive victories more than most, because he has netted five times in those games.

A sublime hat-trick when the Gunners romped to a 5-1 Emirates victory back in February means Ramsey is the one for all Toffees fans to fear, especially if Emery continues to deploy him in a more advanced role.

When goalscorer odds become available nearer the time of the match, be sure to take a punt on Ramsey adding to his six career strikes against Everton.

Gunners taking victory in second-half

When Arsenal have won this season so far, then they have done so from being level at the break. Everton, meanwhile, have also gone in at half-time during three away games with parity but then not been able to win any of them.

Given that the Gunners are so strong at home against the Toffees, betting on draw/Arsenal in the half-time/full-time market looks well worth a wager at massive odds of 19/5 available at BetVictor.

With their two meetings last season producing 13 goals, another open encounter would be most welcome.
