Five games into the season, it might surprise you to learn that not one Arsenal player has scored two goals yet.

Winning 2-1 against Newcastle United at the weekend, Arsenal reached double figures for Premier League goals. However, all of those 10 goals have come from different players:

  1. Mkhitaryan vs Chelsea
  2. Iwobi vs Chelsea
  3. Monreal vs West Ham
  4. Diop (own goal) vs West Ham
  5. Welbeck vs West Ham
  6. Mustafi vs Cardiff
  7. Aubameyang vs Cardiff
  8. Lacazette vs Cardiff
  9. Xhaka vs Newcastle
  10. Özil vs Newcastle

Arsenal are the only club with 10 or more goals in 2018/19 that this is true for. In fact, they’re the only team in the top half of the league not to have any players on two goals.

That has to be a good thing, overall. If the team can still score a good number of goals when the strikers only have one each, that should bode well if either Aubameyang or Lacazette really get going.

If they don’t, at least the team won’t fall apart without them.

At the same time, it does show how much Arsenal’s forwards still need to settle into a rhythm. It’s still very early in the campaign, so hopefully that will come as Unai Emery’s team selection settles, and they get used to his style of play. We’ll see.
