If the Arsenal players thought Arsene Wenger was harsh when he took their Mars Bars away, what must this current crop think about Unai Emery banning fruit juice and moving gym equipment closer to the training pitches?

In a bid to get the squad up to peak fitness, something that slid significantly under Wenger, the Spaniard has reportedly banned fruit juice from the club’s canteen as he introduces strict weighing sessions and body fat measurements, cutting back high-carb treats that even the health-conscious Wenger allowed.

On top of this, Emery and his team have also started more one-on-one training sessions as well as constructing a marquee beside the training pitches that contains gym equipment, allowing the players to mix things up more during sessions.

Arsenal finished the 17/18 league season 37 points behind Manchester City and it was clear that their overall fitness levels had been allowed to slide over recent years.

Since arriving at the club, getting the players fit enough to allow them to press effectively and consistently has been one of the coaching team’s main objectives, bringing in Aussie Rules fitness gurus to help achieve that goal.
