Santi Cazorla has been offered a contract with Villarreal to play for them in the upcoming season after successfully passing his trial with the club.

The midfielder left Arsenal this summer when his contract expired and, to be honest, not many people gave him a chance of playing again.

Cazorla headed to Villarreal where he has been taking part in pre-season and has managed to play in games. After a month of pre-season, a contract has been offered.

Described by Marca as ‘one of the most special signings in the history of Villarreal’, the publication claims that the club will ‘soon present the footballer with a special act’. This seems to be a presentation ceremony that will take place on Thursday.

The Spaniard, who was out of action for 636 days, did enough in pre-season to earn a contract with the La Liga side.

In July, Cazorla came on 67 minutes into the 1-1 draw with Hercules to begin his comeback and received a standing ovation as he entered the pitch for the first time since Arsenal’s win over Ludogorets in October 2016.

Cazorla recently said that he has no intentions of fooling anyone and if he realises he can’t get back to the top level, he will call it a day.

Not many people gave Cazorla a chance of getting this far in his recovery after almost losing his leg to infection, never mind being able to land a contract to play in La Liga.

This really is an amazing tale of self-belief, determination, and steel from Santi.

The deal with Villarreal is initially for one year.
