Aaron Ramsey is set to stall on any contract negotiations with Arsenal until January, hoping to follow the blueprint to a bumper deal laid out by Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil.

That’s according to a report in the Daily Mail, who write that the Welshman is planning to leave any decisions on his future until the winter window.

Talks are apparently ongoing, and Unai Emery wants Ramsey to stay, but they clearly haven’t managed to reach an agreement so far. In fact, reports last week suggested the 27-year-old has outright rejected Arsenal’s first offer.

On the one hand, if Arsenal couldn’t sort Ramsey’s future over the summer, it seems very doubtful they’ll suddenly be able to do so in the coming weeks. January is certainly the next most likely time for movement in the saga, because it’ll be the player’s chance to entertain outside offers, and decide if it’s worth leaving.

Nonetheless, I’m not sure why he’d divulge that information to the Daily Mail, potentially turning his own fans against him for holding the club to ransom. In general it’s probably better to keep your negotiation strategy private. We’ll find out Ramsey’s true intentions at some point this season, but we could be in for a wait.
