David Ospina is in Italy to undergo a medical this morning, after Napoli club president Aurelio de Laurentiis confirmed the Arsenal man is one of the club’s targets in goal.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, de Laurentiis explained earlier this week that there were four goalkeepers in with a chance to move to the Serie A club.

“There are four in contention: Ochoa, Mignolet, Ospina and Tatarusanu,” he said. “It is true that Ospina could arrive, we are negotiating, there are still some differences on the requests.”

Despite the claims that Ospina is just one of many they could sign, in reality it seems like Napoli are leaning towards the Colombian. Sky Sport Italia and Di Marzio both report that the goalkeeper is set for a medical with the club today (Thursday).

According to the reports, the initial agreement is purely for a season long loan to the Italians. There is an option-to-buy for a fee of around €8m, but no obligation if Napoli decide they don’t want to next summer.

Napoli are looking for a quick fix in goal, after new signing Alex Meret broke his arm before the season could even get underway. When Meret returns to full fitness, we’ll have to wait and see whether he or Ospina get preference in the team.

If the Arsenal 29-year-old ends up back on the bench, it’s unlikely Napoli will activate their option to buy next year. We’ll have to wait and see though.
