Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock have all been named in the England u20 squad to face Switzerland and the Netherlands next month, with seven other academy stars called up for the younger teams.

Paul Simpson named his u20 squad for the two fixtures on Friday morning. Nelson, Nketiah and Joe Willock will join former Gunner Chris Willock in the team.

First up England u20s host Switzerland at St. George’s Park in an invite-only fixture on Thursday 6th September, before travelling to KVV Quick Boys, Katwijk to face the Netherlands on Monday 10th September.

Having two matches in fairly quick succession will probably mean a bit of rotation, but the Arsenal trio should be in with a shout at appearing in both games, given their performances at youth level.

Meanwhile Smith Rowe is in the u19 squad selected by Keith Downing, joining young stars like Phil Foden, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Angel Gomes and Jadon Sancho in a very talented group.

Six more Arsenal youngsters feature in the u18 squad. Xavier Amaechi, Folarin Balogun, Vontae Daley-Campbell, Tyreece John-Jules, Arthur Okonkwo and Bukayo Saka are all among the players taking part in the Limoges Tournament next month.

The matches are likely to cause some problems for the Arsenal academy though. The Gunners have a game in the Checkatrade Trophy against Coventry City on Wednesday 12th September, so presumably anyone playing in the latter fixtures for their country will have to miss out.

As long as they’re continuing to play and develop in competitive matches, it probably doesn’t really matter whether that’s with the Arsenal youth team or the England youth team though. Good luck to all of them!
