Unai Emery is remaining calm despite two straight defeats against the country’s top six.

It’s been a real baptism of fire for the Spaniard as he looks to start a new legacy at Arsenal, but there have been plenty of both positives and negatives, particularly following the game at Stamford Bridge.

Emery’s high line was exposed early on Saturday, going two down inside the first 20 minutes, but the side reacted well and forced their way back into the game by the break.

The Gunners created a number of chances in the last quarter of the first half and could have ultimately been in the lead had it not been for some poor finishing.

The two defeats has the club playing catch up already. Most bookmakers are now backing them to finish outside the top four with some profitable odds of 11/4.

It’s well worth checking out some bookmaker reviews, particularly if they pick up a result next weekend, and finding an offer as attacking-wise goals look like they are in abundance.

Emery will be worried by how exposed they were against Chelsea as well as the wobbles at Manchester City, and will be working on improving over the coming weeks.

Following the game he said, “Our process is continuing to improve things, doing more the balance from the offensive and defensive moments, and also with young players with passion.”

He now has the opportunity to that with a run of fixtures that will perhaps be more of an indicator as to where Arsenal are at following the departure of Arsene Wenger.

After West Ham, Cardiff and Newcastle are to follow, two fixtures the new manager will be looking to get maximum points from, and to see some progress from the likes of Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan and Özil, the latter of which will be the focal point of Emery’s attacks.

Finding that balance between defence and attack is going to be key. Matteo Guendouzi has showed promise in linking the two and Emery’s “process” will likely expand on this.

You get the impression September is going to be a huge month for the club. They’re already catching six points up on some of their rivals, so hitting the ground running from now until the end of next month will not only be crucial for picking up points, but creating a winning philosophy and keeping both players and fans on side.
