Petr Cech is currently top of the charts when it comes to saves made in the Premier League, showing how difficult the job in the Arsenal goal is right now.

If you take a look at the Premier League’s rankings of saves made by goalkeepers, as it stands today, Cech is top of the list with 18. The Arsenal man is followed by Fulham’s Fabri (16) and West Ham’s Lukasz Fabianski (also on 16), who got a big boost at the weekend, making nine saves against the Gunners.

In fact, to find another goalkeeper playing for a big-six club, you have to go all the way down to Hugo Lloris in 12th, with eight saves.

As a general rule, goalkeepers for clubs lower down the table tend to make more saves. Relegated Jack Butland topped the charts last season with Stoke City, followed by relegated Lukasz Fabianski with Swansea City.

There are exceptions, David De Gea finished fifth on last season’s list. Usually that just means the goalkeeper is bailing a poor defence out though, and based on Manchester United’s start to the season, that seems to be the case.

Of course, Arsenal have had a couple of very tough games against Manchester City and Chelsea, so I wouldn’t start panicking about life in the Championship just yet. The Gunners certainly need to offer their goalkeeper a bit more protection for the rest of the season though.
