I’m very happy of Bacary’s arrival,” said Impact head coach Rémi Garde in a club statement.

“He’s a player with a great career who’s still very motivated to come and help the Impact defy its end of season challenge. His personality, experience, and overall game will be a plus for our team.”

Sagna left Arsenal for Manchester City on a free transfer in 2014 before heading to Italy last season to play for Benevento. He made 13 appearances for the Serie A side, all of them in the league.

At Arsenal, Sagna made 285 appearances, scoring five and assisting 28. He played more minutes for Arsenal than for all his other clubs combined (24,297 v 18,600).

Sagna has also appeared in 57 UEFA Champions League games with both Arsenal and Manchester City, 11 UEFA Champions League qualification games, 17 UEFA Cup games, 23 FA Cup games, 13 EFL Cup games, five Coupe de France games and seven Coupe de la Ligue games.

The 35-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the 2018 season. There is an option of an additional year covering the 2019 season.
