Arsenal have joined Olympique Marseille in following Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, according to reports in France.

La Provence write that the Ligue 1 side have been following Dembele since the summer of 2017, and are regularly in contact with his entourage. They held talks this summer, but were always clear that their number one choice was still Mario Balotelli. Now Balotelli has decided to stay at Nice, Marseille could move for Dembele instead.

If they do, they’ll reportedly face competition from Arsenal, who are also following the striker. Of course, the Gunners can’t make a move right now, with their transfer window closed. If Dembele believes he could get a Premier League switch in January though, he might hold off on a Marseille deal.

According to the report, Dembele would cost between €15m and €20m. This is a significant decrease on the £40m some outlets were reporting he was worth last summer, but that’s likely largely due to the season he had in 2017/18.

After 32 goals in his first campaign with Celtic, Dembele only managed half as many in his second. As a result, the hype around him has died down a bit, and his price looks a lot more reasonable. We’ll see if Marseille think it’s worth a bid.
