Paris Saint-Germain have agreed new terms with 17-year-old Yacine Adli, the club announced today, with the youngster choosing to stay in France over joining Arsenal.

Adli is a French-born midfielder, who spent the last five years of his youth career in the capital with PSG. When his contract came to an end this summer, he had the choice either to stay with the club or leave, and plenty of top teams around Europe showed an interest, including Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus.

For a while, it looked like Adli would follow Unai Emery to the Emirates Stadium, with the French media reporting he would sign a three year contract in London, with an option for an additional two years later. However, PSG have now announced he’ll remain in France until 2021 instead.

The news is particularly disappointing as it was Arsenal’s new head coach, Emery, who gave Adli his first taste of senior football at the top level this season.

In May he picked the u18 France international to come off the bench in PSG’s final game against SM Caen. The midfielder looked comfortable and confident in his brief moments on the pitch.

Unfortunately, that’s where he’ll now stay for the next few seasons. Hopefully this isn’t one Arsenal come to regret later, but at least they’ve established a positive connection with the youngster if he ever does decide to leave.
