Lucas Torreira has confirmed he’ll return to Arsenal at the end of the month, after some supporters were concerned he wouldn’t make it back in time for the start of the Premier League.

Speaking to Uruguayan outlet Ovacion, Torreira talked about his move to Arsenal, and his plans for the rest of the month. At the moment he’s in Italy, but he’s travelling to Uruguay for a holiday until July 28th. After that he’ll return to Europe, to begin pre-season on July 30th.

That means he’ll miss this weekend’s clash against Boreham Wood, and the two Singapore matches against Atletico Madrid and PSG. However, he’ll be back before the Chelsea match on August 1st and the Sevilla game on August 4th.

How much of a part he plays in those games, we’ll have to wait and see. He’ll only just be back from holiday after all. However, it does mean he’ll be available for selection by the time Arsenal play Manchester City in the Premier League, two weeks after his return to the club.

Ovacion also confirm that Arsenal signed Torreira ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, paying €5m above the €25m release clause to secure the signing.

It’s good the club got the deal as good as done before the World Cup, because you’d imagine he’d have had a whole load more suitors afterwards. Now, we can just look forward to seeing him in action for Arsenal.
