Arsenal’s interest in Goncalo Guedes is genuine, according to Spanish radio, with further confirmation that the club have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain over the player.

Spanish station Cadena COPE claim Arsenal, Valencia and Inter Milan have all enquired with PSG over the availability of Guedes this summer.

The player himself reportedly wants to play in the Champions League, and return to Valencia, where he spent the last season on loan. However, the La Liga side are still waiting on an answer from PSG before they can decide how to move forward with the deal, or to give it up entirely.

Agent Jorge Mendes recently met with the PSG president over Guedes. He was hoping to secure a move for the player before the end of Portugal’s participation in the World Cup, but clearly that didn’t go as planned.

That’s probably partly as a result of Guedes’ performances in the tournament. The 21-year-old was less than impressive, considering the hype around him after a strong season in Spain. He scored six goals and provided 11 assists in 2017/18, but only managed one slightly fortunate assist in Russia.

Arsenal do seem to be in the market for a winger, but we’ll have to see how this one progresses, now that the tournament is over for Guedes.
