Arsenal have reached an agreement with FC Lorient to sign 19-year-old Matteo Guendouzi, according to reports emerging on Sunday morning.

In a fast-moving story that seems to have come from nowhere, Sky Sports report that their sources tell them Arsenal are in talks to sign the midfielder from the Ligue 2 side.

However, French journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter claims the deal is much further along than that. He writes that the two clubs already have an €8m agreement for the transfer, plus bonuses.

The Frenchman adds that Guendouzi will sign a five-year deal, with a medical scheduled for Monday.

Since this story is so out of the blue, it’s hard to know for sure whether the reports are accurate. David Ornstein did hint that a younger addition for the future was ‘likely’, in his recent tweet about Lucas Torreira.

The good news is that we’ll only have to wait a day or so to find out whether Guendouzi really is having a medical on Monday.

Guendouzi is a French defensive midfielder who has appeared for his country at u20 level. He made 21 appearances for the Lorient senior side last season, despite his age, and stands at just over six-feet tall. According to WhoScored, his biggest strength is making interceptions.

Perhaps Arsenal are pushing for this deal as a result of the breakdown in talks with Yacine Adli, who ended up extending his contract with PSG. We should find out more in the coming days.
