Sampdoria aren’t the only club set to profit if-and-when Lucas Torreira joins Arsenal from the Serie A side, with two more of the player’s former clubs also preparing to cash in.

According to the Sampdoria president himself, Torreira is leaving the club for a €30m transfer fee this summer, with various reports confirming Arsenal will be the club to acquire the defensive midfielder. It seems that some of that €30m will end up elsewhere though.

Firstly, Pescara will reportedly receive €1m from the sale, thanks to a sell-on clause in the midfielder’s Sampdoria contract. According to TuttoPescaraCalcio, they had a 20% sell-on clause, but with a maximum of €1m. It seems they didn’t anticipate the player being sold on for 30 times that amount.

In addition, a reliable source for news on Club Atlético Peñarol, padreydecano.com, claims Torreira’s boyhood club will earn between €75,000 and €150,000 from the sale. Not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, but a welcome bonus for Peñarol.

For the sake of all three financial beneficiaries, as well as Arsenal, of course, let’s hope the deal goes through as soon as possible. The player’s father has suggested it will all be finalised after Uruguay’s World Cup campaign ends, so we only have a couple of weeks at most to wait now.
