Cristian Pavon’s agent says the player wants to remain with his current club, despite rumours that Arsenal are interested and willing to pay his release clause.

Speaking to Radio La Red, Pavon’s agent denied that Arsenal have submitted a formal offer for his client at this stage. He then went on to add that the player has told the higher ups at his current club that he has no plans to leave this summer.

“Pavon informed Boca’s hierarchy about his desire to stay, and play in the Copa Libertadores,” the agent revealed.

Even if Arsenal haven’t submitted an official offer just yet, the rumours are that they plan to. Spanish outlet AS report that Unai Emery has asked the club to pay Pavon’s €30m release clause in Argentina.

It’s no surprise the 22-year-old is generating so much interest, considering his rise to stardom this season. At club level, he scored seven goals and assisted 19 in 32 appearances, including assisting four in 78 minutes in his last match in May.

The Argentina national team took note of Pavon’s progress, and called him up for the World Cup. He appeared at some stage in all four of their matches in Russia.

Now that Lionel Messi and co. are out of the competition, Pavon is free to negotiate his exit from Boca Juniors. Arsenal might have to convince him to want to first though.
