Mesut Özil decided to cut his holiday short to return to Arsenal early, after hearing about Unai Emery’s training sessions with the club, according to reports.

Goal write that the squad have been impressed with Emery’s training sessions so far, and word is reportedly getting out to the players yet to join up with the team after their World Cup participation.

Özil even cut his holiday short after hearing about them, according to Goal’s claims. He’ll join up with the squad for their tour of Singapore this weekend.

Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi are also returning after their group stage participation, but seemingly not Joel Campbell, despite his World Cup participation ending on the same day as Özil’s. Elneny and Iwobi finished a day or two earlier than the German international.

The current squad already in North London have played two pre-season matches so far, against Boreham Wood and Crawley Town, but those were mostly just to build up fitness.

The upcoming matches against Atletico Madrid and PSG should provide more of a test competitively, so it’s good Özil will be back in time for them. As well as the Chelsea and Sevilla (or Lazio, if reports are accurate) games later this month. Let’s hope it all goes well.
