Ryan Huddart has joined Boreham Wood on a permanent deal, after Arsenal released him earlier this summer.

Huddart was one of nine players Arsenal included on their list to be released this summer, along with the likes of Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker. Now he’s found a new club, with Boreham Wood announcing his signature on Thursday.

Huddart previously had a trial with Bradford City earlier this month, playing the second half of their friendly match against Guiseley AFC. However, after conceding a couple of goals in that game, it was always fairly unlikely they’d call him back.

The upside of joining Boreham Wood is that Huddart has spent plenty of time around the club already. Arsenal play many of their u23 matches at Meadow Park, and the goalkeeper admitted: “I feel very comfortable in my surroundings, which means that I can start quickly.”

Huddart could be set for his first chance today, as Boreham Wood face AFC Wimbledon in their 3pm kick-off. Hopefully it all goes well for him with his new side.

In total, the keeper played 23 times for Arsenal at u23, u19 and u18 level, as well as seven times for Eastleigh, during a loan there in the second half of the 16/17 season.

With any luck we’ll see him in next year’s pre-season match against Arsenal!
