Former Arsenal Women defensive midfielder, Niamh Fahey, has returned from France to sign for Liverpool.

The 30-year-old played for Arsenal for six years between 2008 and 2014, winning two league titles, four FA Cups, three WSL Cups and a Premier League Cup during her time with the club that also included a treble in 2009.

The Republic of Ireland international then moved to Chelsea where she won another league title, FA Cup and WSL Cup.

Her spell with Chelsea lasted only three years, however, before she moved on to Bordeaux where she stayed just one year before returning to England to sign for Liverpool.

“I am absolutely delighted to be returning to the WSL and playing for a club as big as Liverpool Ladies,” Fahey told the official Liverpool site. “I am a huge Liverpool FC fan so I cannot wait to pull on the red shirt for the first time.

“I really enjoyed my time in France with Bordeaux but felt as though the time had come to return to the WSL and experience a new challenge. Having spoken to Neil (Redfearn) and listened to the clubs ambitions, I am really confident that we will have a successful season.”

Liverpool Ladies manager Neil Redfearn added: “This is a really important signing for the club as Niamh is a top class footballer. She has won a number of trophies during her spells with Arsenal Women and Chelsea Women so her experience will be vital for us this season.

“A number of other clubs tried to sign Niamh so we are delighted that she has decided that Liverpool Ladies would be the right club and I am really looking forward to working alongside Niamh.”

Liverpool also announced the signings of English defender Sophie Bradley-Auckland, former Belles striker Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Scottish forward Christie Murray.
