Gary Neville had a lot of praise for Uruguay after their win over Portugal this weekend, and particularly for rumoured Arsenal signing Lucas Torreira.

Uruguay won 2-1 in the first knockout match of the tournament, and Torreira was one of the star players for his country. That was noted by ITV pundit Gary Neville in his analysis of their performance.

“Torreira, the defensive midfielder, he gets back in every time,” he said. “I don’t know how many times, but he’s always there to clear it. In both boxes they (Uruguay) are an excellent team. They are an experienced outfit who play to their strengths.”

Just how close Torreira is to a move varies depending on which outlet you listen to. Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth claims the transfer is ‘imminent’. Meanwhile David Ornstein just says Arsenal are ‘hopeful’ of agreement, but nothing is signed just yet.

The people close to the player seem more certain of his impending move to Arsenal. It seems a different friend or family member is on social media ‘liking’ posts about his move or tweeting that it’s done. Whilst that’s by no means an official confirmation, all the hints suggest he’s on his way.

It’s good to hear praise for an incoming Arsenal player in TV analysis for once, as moments like these don’t come around very often. I’m sure they’ll all change their tune the moment the club make the transfer announcement.
