Nacho Monreal is ‘pleased’ with the interest from Real Sociedad, after they presented his agent with a proposal to leave Arsenal, but he isn’t going to force a move.

The Spanish media are continuing to run with the Monreal to Sociedad story, but Mundo Deportivo write that the La Liga side are starting to lose hope in completing the signing. They claim Real have ‘practically ruled out’ the transfer, and are turning their attentions to Diego Rico of Leganes.

The idea of playing for Sociedad ‘pleased’ Monreal, but Arsenal reportedly don’t want to sell. Unai Emery is also personally hopeful to keep the player around.

Meanwhile, AS confirm that Real Sociedad made contact with Monreal’s agent, who responded positively to the approach. They made their first offer to Arsenal, but for now the player is expected to see out the final year of his contract. Perhaps even beyond, as his deal has an option to extend for a further year.

It’s always hard to tell how much Arsenal, or any club, really want to keep a player. Obviously if they want to sell someone like Monreal, they don’t want that to get out publicly, as it would weaken their negotiating stance.

With the way things went for the 32-year-old last season though, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Emery really does want to keep him around.
