West Ham United are in talks with departing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, hoping to bring him in on a three-year deal, according to reports.

The Guardian write that West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini is targeting Wilshere as a summer signing, after the midfielder’s contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June. They add that the 26-year-old also has an offer from Fenerbahce.

This is consistent with reports from Sky Sports on Wednesday, who wrote that Wilshere had held talks with the London club over a possible move.

A club like West Ham definitely makes sense if Wilshere wants to stay in the Premier League. He made it clear in his Instagram post that he would’ve happily stayed at Arsenal if he could be playing more regularly, and that’s clearly his first priority moving forward.

It’s not very likely he’ll guarantee himself any more matches playing for another big-six club than he could have at Arsenal. He has a much higher chance of making the starting eleven at West Ham.

After that, it just depends what his other priorities are. Perhaps he wants to stay in London where his family are settled, or maybe he wants to join a club in the Champions League like Fenerbahce. We’ll have to wait and see.
