Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi is on Juventus’ shortlist of potential defensive reinforcements this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Corriere dello Sport report that Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici both like Mustafi ‘a lot’. The 26-year-old is therefore one of the names on their shortlist of potential signings alongside Jerome Boateng, Diego Godin and Matthijs de Ligt.

That’s a pretty wide variety of centre-backs, but it likely depends on whether Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have any interest in letting their star defenders go. The feeling you get from Arsenal is that they’d be much more likely to sell Mustafi than Bayern would be to sell Boateng.

Although, at the moment the German is one of very few senior and experienced centre-backs in the squad who was also here last season. Laurent Koscielny is out injured, Per Mertesacker has retired, and Rob Holding and Calum Chambers had limited starts in 2017/18.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos should help in this regard, but it remains to be seen how he adapts to the Premier League. Selling Mustafi would be a bit of a gamble if nobody else joins before deadline day.

If Juventus make a decent offer though, I’d imagine Arsenal would at least consider it. We’ll see.
