Real Sociedad are hoping to lure Nacho Monreal away from Arsenal and back to Spain, according to further reports in the last 24 hours.

The Mirror have joined the growing list of publications reporting on a potential move for the Arsenal full-back. They write that Sociedad have made an ‘ambitious move’ for Monreal, and believe they can tempt him away from the Emirates. The Spanish club have made contact with the player’s representatives and are keen to get a deal done.

Monreal, for his part, is interested in returning to Spain, according to the report. However, Arsenal have no desire to sell, and the 32-year-old is aware he’s a crowd favourite in North London.

In recent days, the links to Real Sociedad grew more serious, with news that the club had sold Alvaro Odriozola to Real Madrid for big money. They can certainly afford to make Arsenal a serious offer at this stage, and left-back is an area they particularly need to strengthen.

You wouldn’t think that Arsenal would want to sell one of their best performing players from last season. Given Monreal’s age, and the fact he only has a year left on his contract, it’s not completely out of the question though.

Hopefully the club stand firm, because it would be difficult to find a proper replacement at such short notice.
