Arsenal have hired a new senior first-team physio, bringing in Chris Morgan from Crystal Palace, in yet another summer staffing change for the club.

Morgan announced the appointment himself on social media, posting that he was ‘happy and proud’ to be part of the backroom team at Arsenal. He joins from Crystal Palace, having left his position at Selhurst Park in May. He also worked alongside Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool before that, but will now sit on the bench with the Gunners.

With Arsenal’s history of injury problems, first-team physio is a key role the club need to get right. Bringing in someone with experience at other Premier League clubs like Crystal Palace and Liverpool will hopefully put them on the right track.

Arsenal’s previous head of medical services, Colin Lewin, lost his job in May, after 23 years with the Gunners. The decision reportedly left many players and staff shocked and upset, and was part of a wider restructuring of the medical department and the backroom staff in general.

It’s always emotional to see someone leave who was such a key part of the club for so long, just as it was when Arsene Wenger left. Hopefully Emery, Morgan and the rest can build on what the departing staff have left behind.
