Joel Campbell has admitted Arsenal are yet to make a decision on his future, even though pre-season is well underway at this point.

Speaking to the media in Costa Rica, Campbell confirmed it’s up to the Gunners to decide on his next step.

“I have one more year of contract with Arsenal, this weekend I travel, and they’ll decide what’s coming next,” he told La Nacion. “I know that I have a lot left to show in football, so wherever it may be I’ll do things as well as possible to enjoy this sport.”

When asked about whether it’s time to leave Arsenal, Campbell only responded that he doesn’t know, and he’s getting ready for every eventuality.

“That nobody knows,” he said. “I just prepare the best way possible, if it is in Arsenal then so be it. I already have seven years of contract with them and I only ask God to help me make the best decisions.

“A loan transfer will be impossible because I have only one year of contract, so they will not loan me. Now I have to see if I stay or I’m sold. I do not know, I have to sit down with them and see what can happen. At the moment I do not know anything, I have to get there and talk to them.”

At this stage, the signs don’t look for Campbell remaining in North London. After limited World Cup participation with Costa Rica, the forward didn’t join up with the Arsenal squad for their pre-season tour of Singapore. Every other player eliminated in the group stage is already back with the team.

It seems the club have already mostly made up their minds on last season’s loan players. Carl Jenkinson, Cohen Bramall and Stephy Mavididi didn’t come on tour, Tafari Moore and Marc Bola were released by the club, and Jeff Reine-Adelaide was sold.

Meanwhile, the likes of Emi Martinez and Lucas Perez are on tour, and look like real possibilities for the first-team squad next season.

It’s likely they’ve already made a judgement on Campbell as well, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation of what that decision is.
