Phillips holds a UEFA A licence and previously worked as interim manager of Millwall Lionesses when Rebecca Sawiuk left the club in 2016.

Phillips remained at Millwall until she stepped down as assistant manager to take up this role with Arsenal.

Arsenal have not confirmed the appointment at the time of writing however it is notable that Arsenal were due to play Millwall in a pre-season friendly but that game was cancelled ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.

Meanwhile, new Arsenal signing, Lia Walti, has been shopping at the Puma store for some Arsenal gear:

Meanwhile, former Arsenal Women manager, Pedro Losa, has been named as the new Director of Football at Millwall.

Chris Phillips has been appointed as first-team coach.

About the job, Losa said, “I have been really impressed and motivated with the new board of directors of the Lionesses and their ambitious plans for the future and I can’t wait to start working for the club. In spite of the difficulties from last season, the club has a clear strategy for the future and I am really honoured to be part of this project.

“Millwall Lionesses is a club which presents a unique opportunity for girls, women, and coaches to develop. We want to offer an inclusive project for all, to encourage and inspire girls and women for life. The Lionesses aim is to become the best club in London for the provision of sport and education opportunities for girls and women.

“We aim to develop young players to give them the opportunity to play for the first team. It is important that the Lionesses connect with the unique fan base and London community that is the Millwall family.”

Over his three years as Arsenal manager, Losa managed some decent results but could not get the team higher than third in the league, missing out on Champions League qualification.

He averaged 2 points per game broken down into 59% wins, 23% draws and 18% defeats while Arsenal averaged 2.09 goals-per-game scored with 1.15 conceded. That win % is lower than you would expect from a top side – you should see a number closer to 70 – hence his replacement.

An awful start to the 17/18 season sealed Losa’s fate at Arsenal.

“It has been an unforgettable three-year journey for me at Arsenal FC,” Losa said when he was relieved of his duties at the club.

“I wish to express my gratitude, respect and admiration towards all of the first team and youth players that I was lucky enough to work with during my time at the club.

“I also had the privilege of working with a fantastic group of people within my coaching staff and the rest of the club’s employees.

“A special thanks goes to the Arsenal fans who made me feel at home right from day one and have offered the team their unwavering support. We made some great memories together.

“We played our part in taking the club on to a new level in terms of professionalism. The FA Cup triumph at Wembley and our Continental Cup success are occasions that will forever remain with me.”
