Arsenal are reportedly the favourites to sign 16-year-old Sam Greenwood from Sunderland after the teenager rejected a contract with the Black Cats.

Greenwood, who is yet to make a senior Sunderland appearance because he’s only 16, is highly rated and seen by many as one of the best talents in his age group. With 21 goals in 26 games at u18 and u16 level overall, seven in 15 appearances in the Premier League at u18 level, and goals at England u16 level, it’s not hard to understand why.

When the Gunners were first linked with a move for Greenwood, Manchester United and Stuttgart were also being mentioned. But it seems as if Arsenal, who are overhauling their club from top to bottom, are in pole position to add him to their ranks according to the Chronicle. ESPN are also reporting the same news from ‘sources close to the club’.

Arsenal would have to pay Sunderland a development fee should they find an agreement with Greenwood to take him to London.

Sunderland suffered their second consecutive relegation last season and will play 18/19 in League One.
