Arsenal are reportedly prepared to offer €50m for Marseille’s Floriant Thauvin which will not be enough to land him and is more than Arsenal have to spend.

The report, from France, claims that Unai Emery wants the 25-year-old winger at Arsenal and the club would be prepared to pay €50m. That seems highly unlikely.

Arsenal have a limited budget this summer. With the purchase of Bernd Leno, Sokratis and Lucas Torreira, Arsenal will have to start selling players.

Earlier in the week, reports in Italy claimed that Emery had ‘madly fell in love’ with Thauvin. They also reported that Arsenal had made contact with Marseille regarding the player but that is as far as things have gone.

Thauvin really came into his own in 2017/18. He scored 26 goals for Marseille in 54 appearances and set up another 18. Even in the less competitive Ligue 1, that’s an impressive record.

As a result, the player got a call-up to the France squad for the World Cup, and he’s still in Russia. When France eventually leave the tournament, perhaps there will be more progress on this front.
