Although the season is closing in and there are only nine days left in the transfer window, it’s pretty quiet out there in Arsenal world.

Here’s a roundup of the main stories this morning. All two of them.

Stephan Lichsteiner and Lucas Torreira started training with the club for the first time after the post-World Cup holiday.

Matt Macey, meanwhile, has become the latest keeper to leave the club. He has joined Plymouth Argyle on a season-long loan.

He told the official Plymouth site: “I grew up playing for Bristol Rovers, and warmed up on the [Home Park] pitch with Accrington. I played against them for Luton a couple of years ago. I know the stadium I know what the fans are like as well.

“That [signing for Arsenal] was out of nowhere because I came from the under 18s at Bristol Rovers. When you get interest from a Premier League club you sort of dismiss it and think it’s a joke but it came through!

“[Playing at the Emirates is] the highlight of my career so far. Before that I had a couple of loan spells; I think it is time now to have another spell, play some games and try to kick on again in my career.

“I think in the modern game, you need to be tall you need to move well. Especially at Arsenal they put a lot of emphasis on being able to move well. Those are physical traits I am lucky to have.

“It would have been ideal if I had more time or games with the boys, but I’ve done it before where I have just come straight into a team. I have a whole week’s training so I’ll be working hard this week.”

The 6ft6 keeper was praised by Arsene Wenger who also spoke about the keeper’s size.

“He’s huge. He’s quick,” Wenger said. “You don’t often find combinations of that size and that speed.

“He’s very agile as well for a guy who’s tall like that.

“He came late to us, considering normally the goalkeepers come at the age of 16.

“He’s intelligent and very focused and that is why I was pleased to give him a chance.

“I think he took it already against Norwich and again (against Red Star) he played very well.”

Macey, 23, has made just two appearances for the Arsenal first team, conceding one and keeping one cleansheet (against Norwich and Red Star Belgrade respectively).

The League One side signed Macey after Harry Burgoyne, their 21-year-old keeper, suffered a broken ankle in training last week.

In terms of major news, that’s pretty much all there is around today having looked through all the main papers and websites.

As always, we will keep digging through the media, particularly the foreign publications, to find you the stories others miss.
