Arsenal’s medical staff had a busy day at London Colney on Monday with three medicals seemingly taking place.

Lucas Torreira was widely expected to arrive on Monday but, in addition, Sam Greenwood from Sunderland also turned up while Matteo Guendouzi was London after it was claimed he was on the verge of a move to Arsenal.

Guendouzi is a French defensive midfielder who has appeared for his country at u20 level.

He made 21 appearances for the Lorient senior side last season, despite his age, and stands at just over six-feet tall.

According to WhoScored, his biggest strength is making interceptions.

Guendouzi is under contract with Lorient until 2019 but Arsenal have agreed an €8m deal with Lorient. He will sign a four-year deal with the Gunners.

Arsenal are also in pole position to sign 16-year-old striker Sam Greenwood from Sunderland’s academy.

Greenwood was under contract with Sunderland until the end of the season, but reportedly refused a new deal, meaning he can leave as a free agent for a small training compensation fee.

It’s no surprise Greenwood has caught the eye of some of the top English clubs, considering he scored 21 goals in 26 games for Sunderland’s u16 and u18 teams last season.

He also provided six assists in the u18 Premier League, and earned three appearances for the England u16s.
