Granit Xhaka says he doesn’t care whether people think Switzerland got lucky against Brazil, insisting the final score is all that matters.

Speaking in quotes reported by Swiss outlet 20min, Xhaka responded to a question about whether there was a little luck involved in the final minutes of the Brazil match.

“I do not give a damn,” he stated. “You see the results. They count. This 1-1 is on the board. That’s the reality.

“We worked very, very, very hard for two years. We had to suffer, to show emotion. We’re happy together and had to fight a lot.”

For a country like Switzerland, you can’t argue with Xhaka’s answer. Perhaps for the likes of Germany, France or Brazil it’s about more than just results, and you need to prove you can win well.

When you’re Switzerland though, playing one of the favourites for the tournament, all that matters is you get something out of the game. Especially when even those countries that are expected to win are dropping points.

Next up, Xhaka and Lichtsteiner face Serbia, before coming up against Costa Rica in the final game. Those won’t necessarily be easy matches, but the Swiss have given themselves a much better chance by picking up an extra point.

Brazil will presumably up the pace and win the next two matches, which would give Switzerland a clear route through the group stage in second place. Let’s hope for the sake of the Arsenal duo that’s what happens.
