“We’ve built a winning mentality,” said Lichtsteiner, adding, “Winners seek solutions, not excuses.”

If there’s one player who knows all about winning, it’s certainly Stephan Lichtsteiner and Arsenal fans will be hoping he can bring some of that sort of mentality to the club when he arrives after the World Cup.

Seven Serie A titles with Juventus, five Coppa Italia’s with Juve and Lazio, plus a Swiss league title all fill out the 34-year-old’s CV.

He continued to explain how the Swiss can defeat Brazil. “We have to be close to these individual players, be compact and build on our great performances – without thinking who we’re playing against,” he said.

Lichtsteiner signed for Arsenal on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old joined the club after 10 years in Italy, three with Lazio and seven with Juventus.

He made 257 appearances for the Italian champions, winning 14 trophies in total. The full-back is also up to 99 appearances for the Swiss national team, where he plays alongside Granit Xhaka.

Stephan will wear the number 12 shirt for Arsenal, and Unai Emery gave his thoughts on the player to the club website.

“Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to our squad,” he said. “He’s a player with great quality with a very positive and determined attitude. Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”
