Santi Cazorla is currently training with Deportivo Alaves, using their facilities to get match fit, despite rumours that he’ll spend pre-season with Villarreal.
In a video posted on the Alaves YouTube channel, Cazorla revealed that they’ve been kind enough to open up their training ground to him. He’s also taking part in sessions on the pitch with their youth sides.
“I am grateful to Alaves for the facilities they have offered to me,” he said in the video, translated by Marca. “The facilities here are very good and they’re even doing work to improve them further.
“[The youth teams and I] have had a nice experience. I tried to make sure they enjoyed the experience.”
It sounds like a win-win for both parties. Cazorla can continue his rehabilitation, slowly working his way back onto the pitch. Meanwhile the youth players at Alaves get free sessions with a massively experienced professional.
Of course, all the rumours suggest that the 33-year-old will join up with Villarreal in the coming months. However, the surgeon overseeing his recovery lives much closer to Alaves, half way across the country. It makes much more sense for Cazorla to stay close to the medical professional for now.
Hopefully we’ll see the midfielder back out playing matches before long. It’s a shame it won’t be in Arsenal colours, but it would just be nice to see the player smiling playing football again. Given how many times he made the fans in North London smile, that only seems fair.
