Besiktas have reportedly cancelled talks with Jack Wilshere after the Arsenal man demanded €8m-a-season to sign for them.

On Tuesday evening, Jack Wilshere announced that he would leave Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of June.

Despite wanting to stay, and agreeing to a new deal to do just that, Wilshere admitted frank talks with Unai Emery left him in no doubt about his future as a fringe player at the club.

Having lost so much time to injury, it’s no surprise that Wilshere wants to go somewhere he can be a regular starter.

Wilshere stated in his goodbye message that he was leaving for ‘football’ reasons so it seems unlikely he is demanding too much from the clubs that are interested in him. Still, Turkish paper, Gunes, claims that the Englishman demanded £3m-a-year more than he is currently earning at Arsenal.

Jack earns a basic of £90,000 with Arsenal. When bonuses are added in, this rises to £120k, but Gunes believe he asked Besiktas for approximately £137k-per-week.

As of the latest figures available (July 2017), Besiktas’ highest earner is Pepe on €4.25m – almost half what Wilshere is said to be asking for (approx. £71k-per-week).

If this is true, it would seem like a poor move on the part of Wilshere’s agent unless they had no intention of sending Jack to Turkey. If that was the case, why bother with talks at all?

Damian Comolli, Fenerbahce’s sporting director, is said to have reached out to Wilshere’s reps. Other teams said to be interested in signing Wilshere for free after the end of June include West Ham (seen as the current favourites), Southampton, Wolves, Sampdoria and AC Milan.
