Jean Michael Seri’s agent has confirmed his client’s release clause to Italian radio, but adds that Arsenal or Chelsea would need to move fast to activate it.

Speaking to Italian station Radio CRC, Franklin Mala confirmed reports that any club interested in Seri can sign him for €40m, as long as they do so before July 15th.

“Seri’s clause is €40m (£35.2m) and it is valid until 15th July,” he said. “After that Nice can ask for any amount they want.”

The agent also revealed that despite reports that his client solely wants a move to the Premier League, he’s open to speak to other top European clubs.

“I read that Napoli are signing Fabian Ruiz, so if they sign the Spaniard, it’ll be difficult to sign Seri too,” he admitted. “We’re open to talks with Napoli, but there’s been nothing so far.”

For the moment, Arsenal seem to be looking at cheaper options in midfield. Lucas Torreira is only rumoured to cost around €30m, €10m less than Seri. Ever Banega would be even less expensive, at €20m. Unless the club are convinced Seri is a sufficient step up from those two, they’re unlikely to pay up.

As for Chelsea’s interest, they’re unsurprisingly struggling to get business done at the moment, what with all the question marks over the managerial situation at the club.

Rumours suggest the club were hoping current boss Antonio Conte would take another job, reducing the compensation they owe him. That hasn’t happened, so they’re at a standstill, with no signings, no player sales, and no new manager.

Perhaps that could leave the way open for West Ham, with the media also linking the Hammers to the midfielder. We’ll see.
