Arsenal are still interested in signing Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, but face competition from other English clubs, as well as Napoli in Italy.

Napoli and Arsenal sharing so many targets is starting to become a bit of a running joke this window. Both clubs are reportedly in for Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira, and now Jean-Michael Seri as well.

Seri’s agent, Franklin Mala, confirmed their talks with Napoli to Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We are talking to them, and the idea of wearing Napoli’s shirt appeals to him,” Mala said“He would like to play for Napoli, and Ancelotti can get the best out of him.”

Meanwhile, Sky Sports claim Arsenal are still in the race for the midfielder. They write that the club are joined by Chelsea in following the player. Potentially Manchester City as well, given new Nice manager Patrick Vieira’s strong links to them.

In Arsenal’s case, the main driving force behind the move is Head of Football Relations Raul Sanllehi. Sanllehi tried to sign Seri for Barcelona last summer, but the move ended up falling through when other members of the Barcelona hierarchy decided against it.

Seri is an extremely capable player in possession, as an accurate passer with an eye for creating chances. He hit double figures for assists again last season with 10 in 43 matches, along with a couple of goals. He provided 10 assists in 2016/17 as well, so it was no one-off season.

As mentioned earlier, Arsenal are also in for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, so we’ll see how the two moves progress in the coming weeks.
