Stephan Lichtsteiner has signed for Arsenal, the club announced on Tuesday, after leaving Juventus on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old joins the club after 10 years in Italy, three with Lazio and seven with Juventus. He made 257 appearances for the Italian champions, winning 14 trophies. The full-back is also up to 99 appearances for the Swiss national team, where he plays alongside Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal announced the move on their Twitter account on Tuesday:

Stephan will wear the number 12 shirt for Arsenal, and Unai Emery gave his thoughts on the player to the club website.

“Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to our squad,” he said. “He’s a player with great quality with a very positive and determined attitude. Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”

Arsenal are said to want to sign ready-made players who will need no time to bed into the team, and with Lichtsteiner they will certainly get that.

The club had no defined right-back back-up for Bellerin last season, but Lichtsteiner will bring so much more than that to the squad, with a massive amount of experience and a winning mentality. As well as freeing up cash for other positions that desperately need to be reinforced, of course.

Welcome to the club, Stephan Lichtsteiner!
