German national team manager Joachim Low revealed that Mesut Ozil has undertaken a number of extra training sessions in order to be fully fit for their opening World Cup game on Sunday against Mexico.

The Arsenal star endured a troublesome season with back injuries that disrupted his form. He then picked up a bruised knee that ruled him out of Germany’s last friendly against Saudi Arabia, placing doubts on his World Cup participation.

Ozil is, however, now fully recovered and Low revealed the player, who is often called ‘lazy’ by parts of the English media who should know lazy, has been working hard to make sure he’s ready to start.

Low said: “All the players are fit.

“Mesut Ozil had two extra training sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

“The overall impression is good. He is fit.

“I still have two or three options in terms of who is in the team but I want to announce it to the players first before disclosing it.”
