Mesut Özil is back in full training with Germany, just in time for his country’s opening game against Mexico on Sunday.

Özil has struggled with various injuries ever since the turn of the year, which all came to a head at the end of the Arsenal campaign as he missed the final three matches of the league season. He managed to return for Germany’s first international friendly, scoring their only goal of the game, but ended up back on the sidelines with another injury.

Now it seems he’s finally fit again, and not a moment too soon, with Germany’s first match this weekend. Manager Joachim Löw explained that the time off helped the 29-year-old recover.

The days off helped him, he has no problems,” Löw insisted. He has fully trained. As far as the lineup is concerned, I will commit myself on Saturday, not now.”

Özil himself also confirmed his return with a post in Twitter:

It’s good to see one of Arsenal’s star players getting a chance to perform on the world stage with his country. Of course, Mesut Özil has done it all before, winning the competition last time out. This is a massive opportunity in the prime of his career to do it again though.

Plus, it always makes the competition more enjoyable to see the best players taking part in it. That’s why there’s been so much fuss about Mo Salah’s injury, after his fantastic individual season with Liverpool. Hopefully Özil can put his own injury concerns behind him now.
