Bernd Leno is Arsenal’s priority summer target to fill the goalkeeping position, according to journalist Kike Marin.

Marin claims signing the Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper is the club’s main objective this summer, under new head coach Unai Emery. It’s certainly not the first time we’ve heard about Arsenal interest in Leno, but Marin’s involvement adds a new layer of reliability to the story.

In January, the journalist was one of the first to call Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s transfer to Arsenal. At the time he was largely laughed off, but turned out to be right.

Then, in April, when Luis Enrique was favourite for the Arsenal manager job, Marin wrote that the appointment was unlikely to happen. He then tipped Emery as a strong contender for the job a week before the announcement, when most of the media were saying Arteta was a done deal.

Perhaps the Spaniard has a more reliable link to the club now, with former Barcelona man Raul Sanllehi taking one of the top jobs. Wherever he’s getting his information, it’s worth paying attention.

Any team wanting to sign the goalkeeper will reportedly have to pay around €25m (£22m). Leno just missed out on the World Cup squad, after making the initial shortlist, so he’s free to negotiate with Arsenal.

We’ll soon find out if Marin has got it right again.
