Arsenal are in the race for Brazilian wonderkid Rodrygo, according to Kike Marin, with Santos asking for around €50m (£43.9m) for the player.

Marin writes that Arsenal have been following the player over a possibly move, but are ‘obviously not’ going to pay £43.9m for a 17-year-old, even one of Rodrygo’s quality.

The young winger is already making an impact for the Santos first team, scoring five goals and assisting two in just nine league matches in 2018. In fact, Santos haven’t managed to win a single league game this year without Rodrygo scoring. Understandably, they value him very highly as a result.

Meanwhile, as we mentioned in another article on one of Marin’s recent transfer claims, he’s had a good record on Arsenal recently.

He correctly called Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s transfer to Arsenal, ruled out Luis Enrique’s appointment as Arsenal manager and tipped Unai Emery as a strong contender for the job when most of the media still thought it would be Mikel Arteta. If he says Arsenal are interested in the Brazilian youngster, there’s a good chance he’s right.

The problem now is getting Santos to agree to a reasonable fee, and finding room in the Arsenal budget. We’ll see if that’s possible before one of the other top European clubs snaps him up first, with Real Madrid circling.
