Reports in Italy are once again suggesting that Arsenal are considering a move for 22-year-old midfielder Jakub Jankto, with Udinese setting their price for the player.

Corriere della Sera write that Arsenal ‘could return’ for the player, after ‘the interest of the past few months’. They claim the Serie A side have slapped a €14m price tag on the midfielder, and that Atalanta are another club following him this summer.

It feels like these rumours pop up every couple of months without fail, but they never seem to turn into anything more substantial.

Last summer, the media repeatedly linked Arsenal to the Czech international, particularly after quotes from the player’s agent saying Jankto ‘likes’ Arsenal, and quotes from the player himself saying he supported the club (and Juventus too) as a child.

There were even links to Jankto all the way back in 2016, and many stories about the club sending scouts to watch him play.

Years later, almost nothing has changed. Jankto’s agent is still in the media calling Arsenal ‘contenders’ for his client’s signature, and Italian outlets are still writing story after story, without anyone reliable in England corroborating the claims.

At this point, it’s starting to look like a PR move to get the player’s name out there. He had a good season, with six goals and seven assists in 39 appearances, so perhaps his team are just trying to take advantage of that while they have the chance. We’ll see.
