Arsenal are keeping an eye on RB Leipzig full-back Lukas Klostermann, according to reports in the German media.

Bild report that new Arsenal head coach Unai Emery is following the player. They claim the club want another defender after they complete a deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos, one more in the mould of retiring centre-back Per Mertesacker.

Klostermann is reportedly one of the options they’re considering. The 22-year-old German mostly played at right-back this season, although he did reach double figures for appearances on the left as well. Bild write that he can play anywhere across the back four, and that’s part of the attraction for Arsenal.

The Leipzig man is still young, like much of the current Arsenal back line. However, he has a lot of experience, with 86 appearances for the Bundesliga club’s first team, 39 of which came in 2017/18.

He’s nowhere near as tall as Mertesacker, but still stands at over 6’2″, so he’d add a physical presence to the defence.

Arsenal will have to compete with AS Roma for the player’s signature, so it’s not a sure thing. Roma have Champions League football to offer next season after all. It’s up to the club’s new transfer team to get a deal over the line now.
