Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal with Sampdoria to sign Lucas Torreira with the midfielder expected to agree terms soon.

The midfielder has a release clause that saw Arsenal, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund fighting it out for his signature, however the Gunners stepped up with an improved offer to beat off the competition.

We really are through the looking glass.

Reports from Italy [numerous outlets] and the Guardian claim that the deal is agreed between the two clubs.

Arsenal will pay £26.4m [€30m] for the player, who has a release clause of £21.9m [€25m], and were discussing personal terms with the Uruguayan’s representatives in Milan on Monday.

Arsenal will pay the fee to Sampdoria over three years.

Torreira, should all go to plan, will sign a five-year deal with Arsenal worth around €3m-per-year [approx £50,000-per-week].

Described as an ‘extremely hard working player’, it is clear that Arsenal are incredibly keen to land the defensive midfielder who actually started out life as a striker compared to Carlos Tevez due to his ‘combative’ style.

Fans have been crying out for the club to sign a proper defensive midfielder and it looks like that’s exactly what they are about to do.

Finally.
